This series on the prophetic is based off my handwritten notes, which I took as I attended classes on this topic at church in Mar 2024.
Some do’s and don’t:
- Do not shame people, all rebuke and correction should be done in private. When prophesying in public: edify, exhort, and comfort.
- Do not prophesy dates, unless in the prophetic ministry
- Do not prophesy to fix a disciplinary problem
- Do not prophesy based on emotions like: anger, compassion
- Keep your prophesy short (2 mins), if there is more God reveals send the rest to that person later
- When we get revelation from God, ask Him what He would like us to do with it. And also ask their permission, before prophesying over them.
- Make sure revelation, interpretation, and application is proper. The Lord often reveals things progressively.
- Get clarity of revelation, e.g; who is it for, and have joy, grace, the goodness of God, humility when prophesying
Simple framework on what to do when receiving a Prophetic word:
- Write / Record the prophetic word immediately, to protect ourselves and those we are prophesying over
- Weigh the prophetic, test and prove all things: 1) consider the source is it the Holy Spirit / human spirit / devil, 2) consider agreement with the Scripture, 3) get counsel with spiritual leaders you have a close relationship with
- Work out different segments, and dissect the prophetic word: a) Now word: God is saying something for your present season, b) Confirming word: God is saying it again, c) Distant word: Not here for now, maybe 5-10 years later
- Witness the prophetic and believe on it (2 Kings 7:1-2). Come in agreement with what God says, and ask the Holy Spirit is there anything we need to prepare, e.g; start / stop doing some things.
- Wait on the prophetic: To everything there is a time / season. Ask God which season you are in now, and when these things prophesied would be fulfilled. So that we do things in the right season, for to everything there is a season.
- Warfare with the prophetic, e.g; I got a terminal illness but previously Lord You said I will do this for You and it hasn’t come to pass, Lord you said my marriage would be healthy
- Water the prophetic word, the word is like a seed in Matt 13: the parable of the sower. Please refer to Matt 13:2-23 article. When things are going in the right direction as prophesied with fruits, we got to keep watering the prophetic word and keep it healthy. There is some responsibility on our end too.
