Prophetic Part 2: Different Levels of the Prophetic Ministry

Prophetic Part 2: Different Levels of the Prophetic Ministry

This series on the prophetic is based off my handwritten notes, which I took as I attended classes on this topic at church in Mar 2024.

  • Prophetic is like a swimming pool, unlike a sea
  • You can jump in and swim, at a depth which you’re comfortable with

Three levels of the Prophetic Ministry:

  1. The Spirit / anointing of Prophecy
  2. The Prophecy gift of the Holy Spirit (one of the nine spiritual gifts listed in 1 Cor 12:4-10)
  3. The ministry call / office of the prophet (corresponds to the five-fold ministry in Eph 4:11-13, please refer to Five-Fold Ministry series)

The Spirit of Prophecy:

  • Rev 19:10: The testimony is the Spirit of Prophecy
  • When somebody is giving their testimony of Jesus: how God worked in their lives, there is an atmosphere to prophesy
  • Ask the Holy Spirit, if there is something He wants to say to us
  • 1 Sam 19:20-21: The messengers came under the umbrella of the Spirit of Prophecy, that the prophets carried
  • When we are surrounded by Prophetic people, there is also an atmosphere to prophesy

The gift of Prophecy:

  • Prophecy is one of spiritual gifts listed in 1 Cor 12:7-10
  • 1 Cor 13: While operating in any of these gifts, we have to first walk in love, please refer to 1 Cor 13:1 article
  • 1 Cor 14:1-3: We are told to eagerly desire / hunger for spiritual gifts, especially prophecy
  • We must not be mistaken that just because we are operating in the gift, this means we are mature
  • Some people can be gifted prophetically, but they misuse the gifts outside the plans and purposes of God
  • The gift of Prophecy can be operated 24/7
  • And there is a consistent flow of prophecy in our lives
  • 1 Cor 14:3: Prophecy edifies: builds us up, exhorts: encourages us to walk in truth, comforts: those who experienced lost bringing them back to track, affirms our decisions
  • 1 Cor 14:24-25: Secrets disclosed during prophesy don’t necessarily mean sin
  • The goal of prophecy is not to expose sin, but as mentioned to edify, exhort, and comfort

Ministry call of a Prophet:

  • A primary call in somebodies’ life
  • Need to work alongside with the five-fold ministry
