Prophetic Part 5: Learning to be Led by the Holy Spirit

Prophetic Part 5: Learning to be Led by the Holy Spirit

This series on the prophetic is based off my handwritten notes, which I took as I attended classes on this topic at church in Mar 2024.

  • Prophecy: Learning to hear the voice of God, so we can be effective in our ministry unto others
  • Slightly different from hearing God’s voice for our own lives, ourselves
  • 1 Cor 2:9-10: God reveals deep things to us, by the Holy Spirit

3 Phases of the Holy Spirit work in our lives:

  1. Spirit born
  2. Spirit baptised
  3. Spirit built

Spirit born:

  • We experience the new birth
  • During salvation of every believer, the Holy Spirit comes and lives inside of us (Acts 2:38-39, John 3:4-6)

Spirit baptised:

Spirit built:

  • Not a single event, but a lifelong work, where the Holy Spirit is our companion that shapes our lives from the inside out, e.g; attitude, behaviour, words
  • The Holy Spirit transforms us to be Christ-like, with two functions:
  • a. Live in the Spirit
  • We learn to walk and live habitually in the Holy Spirit
  • b. Led by the Spirit
  • Following the Spirit leading in every part / area of our lives (Gal 5:25)
  • We need the sensitivity of the Holy Spirit: what griefs God and breaks His heart
  • We need to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit: do not suppress / quench the Spirit’s fire (1 Thess 5:19)
  • In the Old Testament, there is the Urim stone, that was casted to get either a “yes” or “no” answer from God
  • But in the New Testament, God leads us by the Holy Spirit leading our spirit (Rom 8:14, 16)
  • God is Spirit, and we are also spirits having a body and soul (elaborated more below)

Characteristics of the Holy Spirit leading:

  1. The Holy Spirit will never lead us to act contrary to the Scriptures
  2. He enjoys leading those who are meek. Please refer to Matt 11:28-30 article, for how we should have meekness and humility as Jesus did.
  3. Holy Spirit can lead us into spiritual warfare, not every time He leads us to peace
  4. Holy Spirit leads us by our Spirit. In the New Testament, the leading is more internal, unlike the God’s leading in the Old Testament which is more external.

Three characteristics of our Spirit:

  1. Ability to have communion: there can be exchange / sharing of things. God can reveal His heart and mind to us.
  2. There is intuition: something like the intellect, and the ability to sense things
  3. Our Spirit has a conscience, and that is how God expresses His holiness

Our soul has the following components:

  1. Mind
  2. Will
  3. Emotions
  4. Memory
  5. Imaginations

Our body is comprised of following senses:

  1. Touch
  2. Taste
  3. Feel
  4. See
  5. Hear

Our body needs the following to be healthy:

  1. Proper feeding of God’s word
  2. Meditation on God’s word
  3. Worship: Demolishes pride in our lives
  4. Having the joy of the Lord, which is our strength
  5. Praying in tongues
  6. Fellowship with other believers, as the Bible advises us to encourage, exhort, sharpen one another
  7. Righteousness
  8. Peace

Four prophetic personalities:

  1. Feeler

  • We can be in at least one of these categories
  • However, they are not based on spiritual maturity: doesn’t mean if we are more mature we will likely end up in some categories more
