Bible Typologies: Jesus Cana Wine Miracle

Bible Typologies: Jesus Cana Wine Miracle

This series on Bible Typologies is based off my notes, which I took as I studied the Bible and various resources on this topic in Feb 2025.

Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

John 2:4, KJV

Story (John 2:1-12):

On the third day after Jesus was baptised by John, at the river Jordan, there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee.

And the mother of Jesus was there.

And both Jesus, and his disciples, were invited to the marriage.

And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, they have no wine.

Then Jesus said to her, woman what I to do with this, my hour is not come.

Then his mother said to the servants of the wedding, do whatever He tells you.

And there were set six stone water jars, used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding about 100 litres of water.

Then Jesus said unto them, fill the water jars, with water.

And the servants filled the water jars up to the brim.

And Jesus said to them, draw out now, and serve to the governor / ruler of the feast. And they did as told.

Now, when the ruler of the feast and tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not where it came from, but the servants which drew the water knew, he called the bridegroom.

And said unto him, everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have too much to drink, but you have saved the best wine till now.

This was the beginning of miracles, Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed on Him.

After this, Jesus went down to Capernaum, with His mother, His siblings, and His disciples, and they continued there not many days.

Typology:

When Adam and Eve sinned in the garden of Eden, they lost the Spirit of God.

Jesus came back, and when He came to earth what was His first miracle?

His mother says, we are out of wine.

Then Jesus said, woman what have I to do with you? My time is not yet.

His time was not yet to pour the wine.

Jesus came to restore the Spirit, or the wine in typology, that Adam lost.

Adam lost the Spirit. And without the Spirit of God, we can’t go to heaven, without it.

But our blessed God sent His Son Jesus, to win it back.

What is it? The Spirit of God!

It’s the difference between eternity in hell, or everlasting life in heaven.

That is why Jesus said, you must be born again of the Spirit.

Jesus said in John 3:5, except that man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.

You see Adam and Eve had perfect fellowship with God in the garden of Eden, but they lost it.

Their sin separated them, from their relationship with God.

And now you and I are born in that sin.

But Jesus came to restore us, His death on the cross, won back our relationship with God.

John 1:12 says, for all who did receive Jesus, He gave them children of God.

So Adam lost the Spirit, we can’t go to heaven without it.

So we needed a hero / champion to come, and win back the Spirit.

So when Jesus was starting His ministry, it was not His time yet, to pour out the wine.

But He went ahead, as His mother was like, you know we just need wine for the wedding, not the big miracle thing.

Then Jesus was like, oh it’s ok I will make wine for the wedding, so we have a good time.

But “my time is not yet”, means it wasn’t Jesus time to pour the wine / Holy Spirit.

This goes into the Feast of new wine, that we are so excited about the true Pentecost.

Please refer to Bible Typologies: Joshua Leading the Israelites to Cross River Jordan article, for a recap when Pentecost is.

Because Jesus ministry did not end when He died, nor when He arose, nor when He went up to heaven to give the blood on the altar of heaven.

Nor when he came back and walked with his disciples until He ascended on the Shavuot.

Nor when He left them, and told them to go away.

But His true ministry, the purpose of Him coming ended, when He poured out that wine, on that virgin being born church.

And started the Day of Pentecost, in the fifth month, on the Feast of new wine.

The true Pentecost, Jesus told them go to Jerusalem and wait until I pour out the Spirit like new wine.

So God bless the teaching on that.

And so the Spirit left, and God’s purpose of coming back, He had to die in the cross, to win the battle.

He had to walk perfectly, with perfect blood, sinless.

To be approved by the Father, to be able to go to the cross.

Then He had to go to the cross, pay the price for our sins, with His own blood.

To earn back, the right of life, and the keys of death, so that He could pour the Spirit on all who would believe in Him.

That was His true ministry, to come back and win that Spirit back.

After Adam lost the Spirit, only a selected handful of prophets in the OT, had the Spirit and was able to function in the spiritual realm, connecting with God.

Please refer to Robert Henderson Three Dimensions of Prayer: Living in Two Places at the Same Time article, for how we all as NT believers have the Spirit Jesus won back on the cross now.

So as believers in Christ today, let’s rejoice for the Holy Spirit we have, to connect with God.
