Intercessors Training for Singapore: Session 5

Intercessors Training for Singapore: Session 5

This series on intercessors training for Singapore is based off my written notes, which I took as I attended a church conference on this topic in Feb 2025.

Speaker: Ps Shyane Payne

I want you to know the Lord never calls you worthless.

These are tricks the enemy brings, to discourage you.

For those of you who are learning new things, there are many things we don’t know / exist, what we don’t know.

So for some of you hearing many new things for the first time, before you were an expert in intercession, and now you feel small.

Just understand it’s a position, God has established you, so he can push you to the next level.

All the faith the confidence you had yesterday, and breakthrough and answers to prayer you have seen, the confidence you have in God, is necessary to get you to the next place.

And we found Him to be a good shepherd, commander, and Lord.

He knows how to lead His sheep well, step by step, stage by stage, he knows how to carry us well.

Thank you Lord, the assurance, power, confidence, love we have is because of you.

You’re a wonderful Father, king, Shephard, you are good O Lord, and we bless your mighty name, praise the name of Jesus.

I tell you the Lord loves, when you appreciate Him.

In your prayers, take a lot of time, just to appreciate Him, thank Him.

God you brought me so far, I don’t know what you took to bring me here, but Lord thank you.

Learn how to appreciate and thank Him, and be very generous about it.

When you know something about something, it’s easy to assume you know a lot about it, when the truth is you don’t know what you don’t know.

So now you’re learning intercession, there’s a lot you don’t know.

And the only way to overcome this, is develop the attitude of the student, always be ready to learn.

It’s only the proud people who don’t learn.

Today, let’s go on a journey, and we are going to explore intercession from the Scripture.

I want to show you the heart of God, the plans of God, and the desires of His heart.

He plans carefully, and He knows what He is doing.

And because of that, he doesn’t need anyone to tell us what to do.

Let’s go on a journey, I don’t want you to think I’m preaching.

How many of you are familiar with story of Moses?

Let’s go back to Genesis, after the flood, the nations went after to serve the demons.

And God decided He has a plan to redeem all of humanity.

He is going to raise a nation for Himself, to be a bright light, witness, to testify of His goodness.

So all the nations will see, and say we want that God.

We will embrace all we have known, and embrace that.

Can you see the plan? Now this God is resourceful, amazing.

He did not make any nation, but made one himself.

He went and found Abraham, and say come, I have a plan and I’m inviting you to my plan.

Abraham packed up and stayed at Hebron, and stayed many years, we are not sure why.

Then at Gen 12, the Lord appeared to him the second time, saying get out of your country, of your father’s house.

I’m not asking you to sacrifice and give up the life you have known for nothing.

Abraham I know what you want, and how to take care of you.

Give up all of that, and I will take care of you.

I’m going to take you to a land, and make you a great nation.

I’m going to make your name great, and anybody who bless you will be blessed, and anybody who cursed you will be cursed.

Now, in you all families in the earth will be blessed.

Think about who Abraham was, he was a nobody, at 75 an old man, barren with no children.

Who would have chose him, but God chose him?

And gave him the land, saying all of it is yours.

And all the land God was giving Abraham, was His.

And how many children do you want, 3?

God says I will bless you with descendants as sand of sea.

And many of you would say amen, but it’s great responsibilities.

And it’s not for Abraham, but for God.

When Abraham first got into the land, he made a great altar.

And God said all this land, north east west south, I will give it to you.

Now fast forward, Abraham lives in the land is enjoying the blessings of God, and eventually has some children.

Then Abraham knew his wife would have a child, but she was an old lady.

One night God took Abraham to look at the stars of heaven, and say these will be your descendants.

Abraham had this level of faith, but God is not dependent on his level of faith.

Abraham said he believed.

And you see God knows what to do, in carrying out his plans.

God made a covenant of his promises with Abraham, according to the culture Abraham.

That My words are not words, and through the covenant, I’m going to be yoked to you.

And after today, I’m going to be the God of Abraham, and Abraham will be the father of nations.

God then said, your descendants 400 years are going to be in Egypt, but you are not going to see it as you would be dead beyond.

Can you see God’s plan far beyond Abraham, and he only had a small piece to the plan of God.

Abraham was to only walk the land, and give birth to just one son: Isaac.

So God does his work well.

From the time he visited Abraham, to the time the children of Israel are coming out of Egypt, was around 640 years.

How long is that? It’s a long time, and you see he is doing his work all ages.

Now he comes to Moses at 40, and trains him, at 80 years after, God says you’re ready.

He learnt how to think like an Egyptian, he needed to learn how to be a shephard, and learn to navigate the wilderness.

And after 40 years, God says Moses your training is done, I hear the cry of my people in Egypt.

Can you see God’s plans are so detailed.

That is the same God whom you pray to, the same God who decided your country’s boundaries, and who should live here.

He does His work well, praise the name of Jesus.

God visited Israel in Egypt, I want to read one verse Exo 9.

You know about the plagues.

In Exo 9, God was revealing Himself to Israel and Egypt, but look at this verse.

Exo 9:13-16: Rise early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh, and say to him I will send my plagues on your people, that you may know there is none like Me on all the earth. If I had now struck you and your people would have been eliminated from the earth. But for this purpose I have raised you up, that all the people in the world might know my name.

Why am I breaking you (Pharaoh), because I’m showing my power to all nations, my reputation, they will know I’m a great God, that I’m doing my work.

Now, Egypt and Israel were seeing God, and all the nations were saying “wow”.

See all this while God was at work elevating Pharaoh to power, and Egypt.

Till the time is right, God says I’m going to carry out my plans.

Can you see God plans well, and his plans are multi-generational, and he knows what he is doing.

One man starts a work, and another man comes to carry it, and so on.

In our nation, we can only do so much, and the next generation takes over.

But God is at work, and when the time is ready, the next generation takes over.

Exo 19:3-6: And Moses went up to God on the mountain, and God said you have seen what I did to the Egyptians and carried you on eagles wings. If you will obey my voice, and keep my covenant, then you shall be a holy nation and kingdom of priests.

So God wanted a holy nation of priests, and use them to show His glory.

So God is saying I want this from you, are you willing to give me that.

And the people say, yes Lord whatever you want I will do.

God told Moses, go and bring them and make agreement with me.

Now when God had His contract, he says I’m going to talk to you now, and come down myself.

So he comes down from Sinai and speaks the Ten Commandments.

Can you agree? So the people agreed and say yes.

God then says bring the elders, so the elders signed the contract.

Then God said bring Moses to sign the contract.

God is excited He has what He wants, His plans are being carried out.

Because all the nations are about to see a bright light, and see hope they can bring them out of bondage.

Israel is his holy nation, set apart for himself.

Exo 32: Golden calf.

I want to hear you how Moses intercedes for the nation.

Moses was busy with God listening to him.

Then in Exo 32:7-10, God said Moses get down and see your people whom you brought out of Egypt, have corrupted themselves, and done the inconceivable, move away from me. I have seen this people and indeed it is a stiff-necked people. So leave me alone, let me build my anger, that I may smite them, and I will make of you another nation.

Moses is hearing this, so what do you do.

He’s not just hearing this God saying politely, He’s angry and Moses is feeling the anger of God.

Here’s this stiff-necked people, although they promised me, they are not going to keep it.

I’m going to wipe them out, and start over.

Remember how long he took to set up Israel, 600 years.

Now you are the intercessor, how would you pray?

Moses was given privileged information, he is healing God’s heart, and feeling God’s pain, and displeasure.

How do you pray?

Moses did not see what he sees, he sees what God is telling him, but he didn’t see it.

Remember he has this access with God.

Exo 32:11: Moses pleaded with the Lord saying why has your anger burn hot against your people.

One of the first principles of intercession, you need to hear the heart of God, and respond to what he has said.

Remember when God told Moses, this are “your people you brought out of Egypt”.

But Moses responded, they are your people, why are you so angry.

Moses then said in Exo 32:12, what are the nations going to think about you.

I can say to you, this is going nowhere.

But he comes now, saying Lord remember Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Remember God yoked himself with Abraham.

So Moses comes now, and saying God you do not break covenant, you made with our fathers, and you did not make a mistake.

Exo 32:14: And the Lord relented.

So what does this means?

Means he stoped building his anger, and say Moses go.

What Moses has not yet seen, are what the people are doing.

He probably thought that God is overreacting.

How is God feeling about the children of Israel right now?

At any moment God could have wipe them out like that, as he said to Pharaoh, I could have brought a single pestilence and wipe out your whole nation.

But this sin Israel committed was so repulsive, that God said I’m going to build my wrath, and release on them.

Moses knows of what he is responding too, and God knows Moses does not know.

So many times we come in intercession, God is dealing with things that are provoking wrath, and we have no idea what He is dealing with.

That’s why we pray the kind of prayer we do, Lord bless us, pour out your spirit, divine revelation, without understanding He is seeing.

Until God says come let me show you.

And all of a sudden, the prayer changes.

Moses then leaves the presence of God, knowing there is great fire and anger, and goes down the mountain.

Hearing the sound, and when he got down he saw the golden calf, people worshipping it.

And now all of a sudden, he can see why God was so angry.

And so now what are you going to do?

Go with me to Deut 9:15.

Deut 9:15-19: I turned and came down from the mountain, and it was burning with fire, the two tablets I’m holding in my hands, you have sinned against God and made a metal image of a calf, and I took the two tablets and broke it into pieces. Then I fell down before the Lord fasted for forty days, for I was afraid the Lord’s displeasure and anger towards you, but the Lord listened to me.

Moses knew fire was going to come, and so he was crying before God, for forty days , and still no release the anger of the Lord, until 40 days.

He was willing to take what it took, what happens if he failed, fire comes down from the mountain and everyone is destroyed.

He said this is God’s hot displeasure, and threw his body in the ground, for 40 days.

Deut 9:18: After 40 days, Moses had a release, and the Lord forgave them.

Moses was intercessor, trying to pacify the anger of God.

Now the prayer warrior, will stop and say God has done it, we believe by faith.

But I want to say all prayer warrior, in God’s eyes they are no different.

He is expecting you to stand before him as intercessors.

It’s just for the many years we have been confused.

All of you are intercessors, that is His perspective.

I look at Moses praying, why was he praying and pleading with God, as he was the mountain.

The drums and idol worship were still ongoing, standing in the gap between Israelites and God.

And if he stopped for a moment, no one to stand in the gap, and they are destroyed.

So he cannot stop, he needs to appease God’s anger.

Exo 9:20: And the Lord was very angry with Aaron to destroy him, so I prayed for Aaron at the same time.

So now Moses turns his intercession for Aaron, he knows God is angry with Aaron too after coming down the mountain to lead the people to make the idol.

After that God said ok, I will forgive everyone.

He had a plan for Aaron to be an anointed high priest, but because of what he did God wanted to wipe him to.

So Moses crushed the idol, but the people were protesting saying God is happy with us.

Now can you Moses, he is burning with fire, saying who is on the Lord’s side.

And they went in and started slaughtering, those who worshipped idols.

I don’t remember how many people died, I don’t want to go into that.

But the argument stop, and protest too.

Has God forgiven them? Moses doesn’t know, he left God up on the mountain, and God said I’m no longer going to use them and wipe them out.

That’s where he left God.

So Moses came down, and was able to deal with the issue.

Let’s look at one last scripture in Psa 106.

Psa 106:19-21: They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the golden image.

God here is giving us a glimpse into the spiritual realm, saying they change the glory into an image of an ox that eats grass, they forgot their saviour.

God says his children are crowned with glory and honour.

And he says when they cancelled the covenant, rebelled and worship the calf, offered burnt offering, peace offering and had fellowship meal with idols.

So this is the process of making a covenant, and embraced the demonic anointing or glory as they did that.

So that is why God is saying they are not my people, somebody else is claiming them.

They willingly gave themselves to another.

So that’s why God said to Moses, “your people you brought out of Egypt”.

Unless Moses had eyes in the spirit to see, he wouldn’t have known.

So sometimes we are praying for people, and until God opens our eyes to see, we might be shocked.

As people we are praying for, might have given themselves legally to evil spirits, carrying the badge in emblem he belongs to them.
