This series on intercessors training for Singapore is based off my written notes, which I took as I attended a church conference on this topic in Feb 2025.
Speaker: Ps Shyane Payne
Today is Wed, and we are almost halfway through.
Our assignment here is to unpack intercession.
We have been seeking to show you, intercession can fail and can succeed.
Before your time here, you probably considered intercession to be good.
From what we are sharing so far, intercession may fail, and the plan of God may be thwarted.
Why become an intercessor?
We have seen several motivations, like Moses there was a crisis.
With Abraham interceding for Sodom and Gomorrah, I believe he loved his nephew Lot that’s why he intercede.
So it’s from a position of love, other times it’s from a position of fear.
God wants you to connect with you, because you love him.
My Daddy used to say to me, you are an heir of God, who owns a big kingdom, what he owns I get to inherit.
My King is seated on his throne, above every names.
My Daddy says I’m a joint-heir with Christ.
What is he working on for his kingdom, what moves his heart?
I got limited time on earth, and I get to enjoy eternity as a good servant or a wicked servant.
As a good servant I get to enjoy eternity with him.
As a wicked servant I will live eternity in regret and torment.
Some may think Christians don’t go to tell, and the Bible is very clear, it doesn’t care about your feelings.
So as an heir, I get to care if I’m going to care about my daddy’s business or not.
SG is my daddy’s vineyard, and you all are fellow joint-heirs.
I’m here because I care about my daddy’s business, flying all over the world, to teach intercession, when my family expects me at home.
God is saying you invest in me now, spend your time in my kingdom now.
Invest knowing for all eternity, you will reap with me.
If he’s calling you to invest, it means he has given you everything necessary to invest.
My job is to take care of my son’s education, to make him independent, so when he’s 30 he won’t call me asking for money.
God has equipped us all with everything necessary for us to succeed.
The gifts he has given you, you decide whether you want to use it.
And when you use it, it gets stronger, you get wiser, and more powerful.
You do nothing with it? Nothing happens.
Same for the anointing.
And who gets to decide? You
Yesterday we talked about Moses.
And God sought out someone who was skilled at managing Egyptian culture, a shephard, a father, a husband who would love deeply.
So when God is going his work like that, he doesn’t just guess.
He’s going to need a work in 2025, and 1955 he gave birth to a young man, mould him fashion him.
All of the things he is training you, it’s for your good.
God is a master planner, he does not make mistake.
Some things you thing it’s coincidence, it’s God divine favour.
So look at Moses, he was born in a time where he should die, all other boys at his age died.
By decree from the king, Moses was born, and his parents decide we are going to keep you.
So they had a silly idea to put their baby in a basket, into the Nile river.
You know what is in the Nile river? Crocodiles!
I don’t understand that, but God is at work.
Something his wisdom seems like foolishness.
If only his servants would glorify his name.
And at the same time, Pharaoh’s daughter decided to take a bath at the exact spot the basket floating by.
She sends her servant and she says go get it, and opened the basket, and her heart melted.
This is one of the Hebrew baby, who should die, and somehow a mother’s love for the boy caused him to take her.
I read this kind of story, and go back to God in worship.
God you are amazing, the level of detail.
While she was amazing if she could take care of him, someone shows up and asks if she would like someone to take care of him.
So she took the baby, and under the Royal protection of Pharaoh’s house, brought him back to his own mother.
Praise God, he doesn’t make mistakes.
So Moses was prepared for the job God wanted him to do.
He was trained in the best schools of Egypt as the best son of pharaoh, raised as a warrior, a commander, to think strategy.
Then there came a time, where he was no longer comfortable and enjoying.
And he decided to take a look at those Hebrews, and what happened? Promotion.
He finished one level his education, and God is calling him to move on.
Some of you ought to move on, but because you refuse God, and so he moves you by force.
So now Moses is learning to be a shepherd.
To the Egyptian, shepherds are an abomination.
So he trained as a keeper of sheep for forty years, where God trained him, educated him.
And now Moses was ready to rise up, God was ready for him.
You can see your gifting, talents, through your own eyes, or through God eyes?
If you see them through your own eyes it would never be enough.
Sometimes we say, God if you give me a little bit more anointing and power I will go.
So if you look from your own eyes your talents, you will never have enough.
Look at the people God has picked to change the world, fisherman who didn’t know theology.
God says you I’m going to use you to change the world, not by your own strength or power but mine.
If you take your eyes off yourself and keep them on me, nothing will be impossible to you.
And this is what Jesus sought to teach his disciples.
If he had chosen the Nicodemus and Bible scholars, they will say it’s their own training at school.
But when his disciples uneducated went and talked in front of the leaders, they were shocked.
As you are praying about your assignment.
You can pray one of two ways, Lord I’m so weak, I’m not good enough, if you don’t come and help me I can’t do it.
And this is how most of us pray, because we look from our own perspective.
The other way, is Lord you chose me, you are strong, and my strength is made perfect in your weakness, and nothing is impossible.
God says, you will mount up like wings of eagles.
If God is in the sky, and I’m on the ground. How can I connect with him?
And so he has given us the ability to mount up to him to the sky, and engage with him.
So beloved, you get to decide.
That I’m the Lord’s anointed, and nothing is impossible.
I want to challenge your faith abit.
Abraham yesterday we saw was struggling with faith, and God comes to him, and brings him outside.
Ask him to count the stars, now God says your descendants are going to be like that.
Do you realise this man is not praying in tongues, but standing before God having a dialogue.
And God said to him, don’t look at your ability, trust in my strength.
Lord I also want to talk to you like how Abraham did.
Then we saw Moses, God is there in fire, and he told God don’t angry, you need to repent of your great anger.
And I thought how, can this man stand before you like this.
So I said to God, how they interacted with you, I wanted it.
In Gen 15, God comes to Abraham after he won a great victory, and said I’m your treasure, your trophy.
And see God is offering him all this.
But Abraham said I want children, God said I already promised you children.
Some of you, your God is broke.
But this God he said his hands are not shortened.
He spoke to a fig tree, and the fig tree died.
His disciples came back to him astonished.
And He said to them that impressed you? If you have faith like a mustard seed, you can command a mountain to drop in the sea.
The disciples were in the sinking boat, and asked Jesus why he was sleeping, expecting him to help.
Then Jesus commanded the wave to stop, and the disciples mouth dropped, what kind of man is this the winds and waves obey him.
This is beyond their capacity to believe him.
And Jesus said to them, where is your faith.
He came from a place, where he understood man was given dominion over everything on earth.
This is the Jesus we sing and talk about.
When I go to pray, I read these stories to remind myself who God is.
That he is powerful and limitless, he is that God.
And when you come to him, that is who you are coming to.
My daddy has the power to blink the Singapore armies to the ground.
And he said son I want to trust you with such power, but only if you trust me and won’t doubt.
So I said Lord I want to engage with you how Moses and Abraham did.
Sometimes you are praying and after 5 mins the anointing builds, you get more confident.
It seems like God is encouraging me, to ask him for something impossible, saying you have to believe.
And now I’m praying with fire, Lord you are no respector of persons, and do not show favour, and won’t deny me.
And all of a sudden He has spoken and I heard an audible voice.
Remember what I was asking for, he said don’t limit me.
I did not know what to say or think, I heard his voice.
And the next thing I knew I’m out of my body in the air, looking down at my body and the roof of the house.
And I’m going far away, and I could see the New York City.
And I’m going further and further away until the earth is like this.
I was completely confused, although I wasn’t scared.
Then he said to me next, my domain spans far and wide.
Then I was allowed to turn my head to see the galaxies.
And He said, don’t limit me.
So I realised, God is really big, and the earth is his footstool.
And he weighs the nation as a scale, he is this ernomous God beyond description.
Everything I could think about is so small, it’s like my daddy has a trillion dollars.
And he says ask me, what do I want?
With half a trillion I can buy Singapore and all of Asia, what can I say to this God now, I stood there dumb.
He knew I didn’t know what to do.
And He said ask me for your generation.
So I said God give me my generation.
And he said ask with faith, and I pray like knowing very little what I’m asking for.
But after that encounter, I no longer wonder if he’s strong and big enough.
That’s why I can come to SG and say this belongs to you, nothing can compete with your power, when you arise every power how’s before you.
The all wise and supreme God, that’s who you are.
When you engage with that kind of God, you know it’s my strength you stand upon.
When you don’t know what to do, I know everything, and nothing is impossible.
Now he says to you like Moses, I want to do something in SG.
But I’m a just judge, whatever I do have to be done legally according to my laws I cannot break it.
The SG have legally given themselves to another power, and they have legal rights.
I can’t simply go and dismiss them, you are my solution.
Come present your nation as case before me.
How do you come now to the courtroom?
You can either come like you are too weak, I don’t what how to do.
Or pray you are the Lord, I do not come in my strength, I’m standing in yours.
The most powerful you can say to God, is Lord you said, your words cannot return void.
When it comes out of your mouth, it must be fulfilled.
No man and no nation has power to resist and prevent it from coming to pass.
Jesus said every idle word we have to give an account for it, so he doesn’t speak idle words.
In prayer this is how God taught us how pray, the heart of kings is in the hands of God.
God says I have the heart, and I’m looking for intercessors to remind me of my will.
There are things which he calls abomination, which he will never change his mind about.
So God that is an abomination, according to your name, it defiles the land.
We are inviting you into this land.
God is in control of the heart of kings of the land.
Laban was coming after Jacob, and God told him, be careful what you say to Jacob.
Do you realise the power we have, it’s not begging kind of prayer.
The church has to agree with it, and give its authority to it.
So the church / government might have solicited false pastors to stand in LGBT in front of authority.
We also stand but in authority of God.
We stand in repentance, for those false pastors.
And these things cannot stand.
Lord you send your word so they will submit and bow to the will of God.
This is the kind of place you engage in intercession.
As you are praying like this, you are going to be able to listen what the Lord has to say.
He may say give me 7 days of prayer / fast.
Which means the level of spiritual power you have is not have, and I will purify you within 7 days.
Sometimes God will come to you saying it is ok, I have sorted it out, it is done, praise the Lord.
Sometimes He will say don’t talk to me about that.
Don’t give him rest.
Stand before God, saying I’m standing on behalf of my nation, the blind, and this wickedness to be rolled away, it is an abomination to you, you have the power to break the bonds.
Jehoshaphat realised three nations against him, he was not prepared.
So he went to pray, but even he was not enough, so he gathered his nations.
He is a skilled intercessor, and interceded in phases.
Phase 1: Lord this land you promised our ancestors.
Phase 2: When we were coming out of Egypt not to touch these people who are descendants of Lot, and you not give us a footstep there. Lord you told us not to touch this land, and we obeyed you. But see what they are doing now, driving out of our inheritance.
Phase 3: Lord we do not have any strength to fight, if you do nothing we will perish, will you not judge them.
Now God our eyes are on you, there was no begging, repentance, and pleading before God.
He presented a legal case before God.
Remember God told Judah, not to fight against.
And God settled it, by having three nations fighting each other, until the battle was over.
And all Judah have to sit on watch.
Can you imagine what they are watching what they said.
Lord you are God, you give such solutions we would have never thought, we never know you can do things like this.
So depending on the case you are dealing with in intercession, you may need to come before a judge.
And you need to present your case, and based on how you present your case, it will determine victory or defeat.
