Trinitarian Doctrine

Trinitarian Doctrine

Today we will look at this important doctrine of the Godhead, how there are three persons but only one God.

There are three distinct persons in the Godhead, each playing different roles.

They are:

  • Father (and Judge)
  • Son (Jesus Christ)
  • Holy Spirit

Father (and Judge):

  • Creator
  • Please refer to John 1:1 article, for the Father spearheading the creation of the world, and the Son partnering Him
  • Lord of the history of salvation
  • Bringing salvation through Israel, to the gentiles (rest of the world), through sending Jesus the Messiah
  • Please refer to Isa 41 article
  • Please refer to Pretribulation article, for His final judgement over the world

Son (Jesus Christ):

  • God incarnate
  • Suffering servant: Messiah
  • Please refer to Isa 41 article
  • Partnered with the Father in creation of the world
  • Went to the cross and was crucified, bled and died for our sins, rose again from the dead
  • Please refer to John 1:1 article

Holy Spirit:

But each of these persons in the trinity are all fully God. In terms of their essence / substance (Greek word “homoousios”), for instance their attributes like: power, glory, splendor, mercy, grace, compassion).

Please refer to Joel 2:25 article, for a recap of some of God’s attributes.

Although the unity of them are not three gods, but one three gods (Deut 6:4, John 10:30).

And this is the doctrine of trinity, or the trinitarian doctrine.
