Bible Typologies: Cain and Abel

Bible Typologies: Cain and Abel

This series on Bible Typologies is based off my notes, which I took as I studied the Bible and various resources on this topic in Feb 2025.

but unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

Gen 4:5, KJV

Story (Gen 4:1-16):

Adam knew his wife Eve, and she conceived and bore Cain, whose name means, I have gotten a man from the Lord.

And she again bore his younger brother, Abel.

Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

And it came to pass, God said to them bring me a sacrifice of the blood of an innocent lamb.

And Cain brought an offering, of the fruit of the ground, unto the Lord.

Abel also brought an offering, of the fat portions from the firstborn of his flock.

And the Lord had respect for Abel, and his offering.

But unto Cain and his offering, he did not have respect.

And Cain was very angry, that his countenance fell.

And God said to Cain, if you do what is right, will you not be accepted.

But if you do not do what is right, sin crouches at the door, and it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.

And it came to pass, while Cain was talking with Abel I the field, Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

And God asked Cain, where is Abel?

Then Cain replied, he does not know, and that questioned God if he is his brother’s keeper.

And God said to Cain, what have you done, the blood of your brother cries unto me from the ground.

And so God cursed Cain from the earth / ground, that when he tills the ground, it shall not yield crops unto him.

And Cain will be a fugitive on the earth.

Then Cain said unto the Lord, that his punishment is greater than he could bear.

As today he would be driven from the land, and he would be hidden from God’s presence, where he will be a fugitive on the earth.

Whoever finds him, will kill him.

But God said to him, not so for whoever slays Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.

And the Lord set a mark upon Cain, lest anyone finding him should kill him.

And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

Typology:

God said bring me a sacrifice of the blood of an innocent lamb, and this represents Passover.

Please refer to Bible Typologies: Joshua Leading the Israelites to Cross River Jordan article, for the institution of Passover in the land of Egypt.

And Abel, which means “Father God”, Ab (Father), El (God), brought the blood of an innocent lamb.

But Cain brought the fruits of his own hands, he brought his own works.

God said that’s not acceptable, bring me the blood of an innocent lamb, that is what I require for this appointment.

And Cain got furious and jealous of his brother, so he killed his brother.

Typology of Israel the older brother, killing Jesus Christ the younger brother.

So this Cain and Abel story, is another Passover typology.

Then in the story, God said Cain where’s your brother?

Cain replied, am I my brother’s keeper?

Then God said, yeah you are, where is he, his blood cries out from the ground to me, typology of Jesus Christ.

And Cain gets cursed, and he says everybody that finds me is going to kill me.

But God said, I will put a mark on you, which is a typology of the mark of the Beast (Rev 13).

And if anybody hurts you, they will be hurt seven times, typology of the seven years tribulation.

So God shows, the dead rose up, in typology Jesus blood cried out, and they, older brother went into tribulation for seven years.

As we see the day approaching for the rapture, followed by tribulation after.

Let’s as believers in the gospel of Jesus Christ, get ready for His return, cleansing our garments white with His blood and walking in holiness and purity.
